A Review: Guardian by Rachel Morgan

A Review: Guardian by Rachel Morgan

Hey everyone,

I finished reading Guardian by Rachel Morgan recently and loved it. I will be including a summary of this story below followed by my thoughts on it.

Borrowed description from Rachel’s website:
1. Receive assignment.
2. Save a life.
3. Sleep.
4. Repeat.

Protecting humans from dangerous magical creatures is all in a day’s work for a faerie training to be a guardian. Seventeen-year-old Violet Fairdale knows this better than anyone—she’s about to become the best guardian the Guild has seen in years. That is, until one of her assignments—a human boy who shouldn’t even be able to see her—follows her into the fae realm. Now she’s broken Guild Law, a crime that could lead to her expulsion.

The last thing Vi wants to do is spend any more time with the boy who got her into this mess, but the Guild requires that she return Nate to his home and make him forget everything he’s discovered of the fae realm. Easy, right? But Nate and Vi are about to land themselves in even bigger trouble—and it’ll take all Vi’s training to get them out alive.

First Few Lines:

My assignment tonight is cuter than most. He’s asleep at his desk, his cheek stuck to the open page of a textbook. Strands of sun-bleached hair lie across his forehead, and his lips—which I may or may not have been admiring for the past half hour—are parted.
I slide off the window seat and creep across the room. It’s bigger than I first thought, and with couches and a television arranged to form a separate sitting area, it’s more like a hotel suite than a regular bedroom.

Great. More places for things to hide.

My Review:

I completely recommend Guardian. Rachel creates a magical but believable world with characters I find easy to relate to. Written from Violet’s perspective, I really enjoy her perception of the human and fae realms. She also has a fun spunk about her that is very engaging. Though she is reluctant, Vi will not disappoint romance fans who can also expect their fair share of tasteful but spicy scenes in this book (G rated).

If you have a soft spot for beautiful imagery like dark tangled trees and sparkling magical visual elements interspersed with vivid colors, than this read is for you. Rachel did very well portraying the world of Creepy Hollow through her written words.

Of course, every story needs some suspense… some questions that need answering, correct? Don’t worry, there is a perfect amount of that as well.

I am now reading Labyrinth (the second in the series) and looking forward to giving another review on that.
