What do Lord of the Rings and The Labyrinth Wall Have in Common?
You may have noticed I had a brief break there in posting, but I promise it was for good reason. I have been crazy busy traveling for work trips (I discovered that Dallas has amazing food), attending super fun comic cons and preparing for The Haunted Realm book launch… which is upon us!!!! So I’ll jump right in to a recap of the last few weeks, details about The Haunted Realm book launch and a quick update about The Realms Faire Joust! And you’ll also find out in this post what Lord of the Rings and The Labyrinth Wall have in common.
Sean Astin, The Labyrinth Wall and My Adventures at Wizard World Comic Con:
At the beginning of October I traveled to Ft. Lauderdale for Wizard World Comic Con. It was an absolute blast. I was overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude when I was asked to speak on the “Creativity Engine: Where Does the Power Come From?” panel, how exciting is that? I joined Genese Davis (Holder’s Dominion) and J.J. Sedelmaier (Beavis and Butt-head, The Colbert Report and more) as we dug into our thoughts on keeping creativity going. From letting go of fears and following dreams to using deadlines to boost creativity, it was a very engaging discussion. What are your thoughts on creativity? Do you have any tips to share for helping the creative juices flow?

In addition, I was thrilled to meet Sean Astin from Lord of the Rings, Rudy, Goonies and more. I never imagined that I’d meet the actor who portrayed one of my favorite literary characters (that would be Samwise Gamgee), and I definitely never imagined he’d tweet about my work (The Labyrinth Wall) on Twitter! He may never know, but his support for my work is life changing. Any writer can attest to the level of rejection writer’s often face, so to receive such support from Sean was a wonderful blessing and encouragement. So there you have it… Lord of the Rings and The Labyrinth Wall have Sean Astin in common. =-) Also, I do want to take this opportunity to briefly mention that Sean is quite the advocate for literature. Check out the GoFundMe project he is doing here: https://www.gofundme.com/seanreads and you can subscribe to hear him read classic tales here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbj_iNzHre9uo2qFv26XPNA. Cool stuff indeed!
And as usual, I was extremely impressed with all of the awesome Cosplays at the event! Below are some of my favorites. Beauty and the Beast, a very cool Jedi, completely awesome The Last Unicorn Cosplay (she made their outfits), Rick Grimes, Lara Croft, Little Red Riding Hood, Assassin’s Creed, and Spock! Oh awesome cosplayers, you rock my world! How much fun are these outfits? One day I’ll do an awesome cosplay (say in celebration if I ever land some big movie deal?)… Yes, you guys can hold me to that if it happens, haha. But in all seriousness, I will try to do a fun cosplay to post sometime in the near future.
The Haunted Realm Book Launch!
Stay tuned this week for more details about The Haunted Realm book launch. I have included pre-order and advanced copy links today as well as upcoming events (see the graphic below pulled from other launch promotions), but I’ll have more goodies like quotes and excerpts this week. If you’re near Orlando, I hope we’ll get to visit in person one of these launch events, the more the merrier. =-)
The Haunted Realm Book Summary:
The Haunted Realm is the thrilling sequel to Young Adult Fantasy novel The Labyrinth Wall (Tweeted by Sean Astin from Lord of the Rings, Dante Rossetti Award Finalist, 5 Star Reader’s Favorite Rated and Amazon Best-Seller).
In this riveting continuation of the story, Araina again faces a series of seemingly impossible magical obstacles. As Araina and her friends search for answers about their Creators and their magical labyrinth world, their journey becomes rife with peril when Araina falls victim to illness. Despite heart-pricking losses in the labyrinth swamps, vengeful ghostly attackers in the Blinking Willows, and many other dangerous obstacles, Araina is determined to succeed. If Araina can’t solve the mysteries of the haunted realm and find a cure for her sickness, she and her friends may never escape the labyrinth, or even live to try.
I’m super excited to be participating in The Realms Faire, and can’t believe the time has already come! Wow, time goes fast. As a Jouster, I shall be relying on the support of my awesome readers and blogging buddies to “cheer” for me throughout this week. What does that involve? Simply use one of the following key words and past it in a comment on this week’s blog posts at this link http://mpaxauthor.com/blog/ (up to three times a day). This will last all week (Nov 9-13) and as a thank you to those of you who participate, I’ll choose one of my participating cheerers to receive a $15 Starbucks electronic gift card! Can I hear a “woot, woot” from the coffee lovers? ;p Thank you in advance to everyone who supports Lady Girdner in this epic Realms Faire quest. Good luck to all of my fellow jousters.
